HIGH RISK by Brian Hall wins the Boardman Tasker Award for Mountain Literature 2022.

On Friday 19th November at the Kendal Mountain Film Festival, Brian Hall’s HIGH RISK: Climbing to Extinction, published by Highland based publisher Sandstone Press, was awarded the Boardman Tasker prize jointly with A Line above the Sky by Helen Mort, published by Ebury Press, part of the massive Penguin Random House group.

Marni Jackson, Chair of this year’s judging panel, appearing on screen from her home in Toronto, had this to say: ‘Full of humour, affection and respect, High Risk: Climbing to Extinction takes the reader to the heart and soul of the golden age of UK climbing.’

Author Brian Hall says: ‘I am honoured to win the prestigious Boardman Tasker Award for Mountain Literature for 2022 with my book High Risk: Climbing to Extinction. Out of the forty entrants I was elated to be chosen by the judges as one of the six shortlisted books, but to share the win is beyond my dreams.’

Sandstone Press Managing Director Robert Davidson says: ‘The Boardman Tasker Award is the world’s preeminent mountain literature prize, and I am happy to express my appreciation and thanks to the Trustees and officials who maintain the memory of those two great climber-authors and do so much to promote mountain literature to the wider public. Congratulations also to that wonderfully lyrical author, Helen Mort, who shares this year’s prize and to our publishing colleagues at Ebury.’
