Animal Lovers: Sandstone Press acquires Rob Palk's debut novel
Sandstone Press has acquired a comic literary novel about divorce, mortality and badgers by Rob Palk.
Animal Lovers follows Stuart as his wife becomes passionately involved in protesting the badger-cull, falls for a fellow activist, and leaves him to join the cause. Stuart refuses to admit their marriage is over, feigning an interest in badgers and following her to the woods to win her back. As new relationships form, secrets bubble to the surface - including some which might have been best left hidden.
Rob Palk wrote his first book while recovering from a nearly fatal illness and the collapse of his marriage. This book was written in London, Burgundy and Haifa but the author now lives in a bohemian commune in Leicester with several other writers and a cat.
Moira Forsyth, editorial director at Sandstone Press, says ‘We’re delighted to be publishing this funny and touching debut novel. It’s a highly entertaining take on love, badgers and the threat of serious illness from a writer with the potential to rival Nick Hornby with his well-meaning but hapless protagonist, and his incisive depiction of contemporary life.’
Publication: February 2018
